2011 Annual meeting minutes

The minutes to the 2011 110 class Annual meeting can be found here. Major issues discussed were the venue of next years nationals, which is at this point undetermined, and the development of the Asymmetric spinnaker. After last year's tepid response at the annual meeting, the proposal this year gained some traction with a three year "development" period being agreed to. Each district will nominate a member of their area to be their technical representative as the development goes on. For some reason, probably related to the location of the annual meeting and those present this year, the three year trial period states that the sail is to be based on a design developed by Doyle sails Detroit. Given the existence of numerous A-sails developed by 110 sailors on both coasts and built by various sailmakers, it seems limiting to devote all development to one loft. Currently, Quantum Newport has put quite a bit of time and development into this over the past three years. In addition to their efforts, former 110 champion and world class sailor Jud Smith at the Doyle loft in Marblehead has designed and is building a sail for use on the East coast. On the West coast, Bill Pearson from North sails has been actively sailing with a Quantum A-sail, and has been coming up with some valuable input that builds on the progress and development that is now already three years old. These are exciting times for the venerable 110 class. Let's all work together to come up with something that truly exploits the ample speed potential that Ray Hunt designed into his beloved 110!
